Passenger Trains
There are often many years between each time NSB purchases new trains. It is a complicated and all-encompassing process, which involves many internal and external decision makers. NSB has managed to procure a train that builds upon reliable basic solutions, with all visible elements tailor-made for the Norwegian climate and all imaginable user groups.
A strong focus on universal design has involved several organisations for disabled people.
The need for public transport systems is increasing in line with the growth of the population of Eastern Norway. NSB wants to be an attractive alternative to competing means of transport for getting people to work. The company has therefore emphasised a light and airy design, high functionality, the environment, safety and comfort – for everyone.
The exterior distinguishes itself with windows at varying heights, long lines and a new standard in driver’s cabs. The engines are adapted to Norwegian conditions, the brakes will tolerate a lot of snow and ice, and with a solidly designed front, the train is adapted to the Norwegian winter climate. With lighting integrated in the doors, the platform will also be lit up in the dark autumn and winter months.
The ceiling height is raised and the luggage spaces are particularly spacious and transparent for better monitoring of your luggage. The toilet solutions also set a new standard. All in all, this is an impressive achievement of good compromises between the many parties involved.
