The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) is constantly facing challenges as far as its programming is concerned. The general public is faced with many alternatives, competition for news broadcasts has intensified and viewing patterns are changing.
A new graphic profile has been developed to provide NRK Nyheter with a clearer identity. The objective is to ensure that NRK Nyheter remains the largest and most important news broadcaster in Norway.
The jury's verdict:
The NRK logo is one of the strongest brands in Norway. In order to meet the competition NRK faces from other news broadcasters, a new, common visual identity has been produced for all NRK Nyheter broadcasts. A strict framework ensures that the flow of graphic information is always communicated in the same way, with a clear sender.
The graphic programme is triggered by a red spot that pulsates from the “r” in NRK. The spot is a common signal point; it follows the news, reinforcing the notion that NRK has news for everyone, at all times. The rest of the graphic framework is adapted to the broadcast format, while the red spot is independent of formats and platforms. NRK has successfully transferred it to many surfaces in the studio, and it is part of all camera shots and angles. The new visual identity has an international pulse; it reinforces NRK Nyheter’s standing in competition with other Norwegian channels and consolidates its leading position.
