ØYAFESTIVALEN is a music festival which is staged every year in Middelalderparken in Oslo.
At Øyafestivalen you will hear an impressively large number of types of rock music in its broad sense. The festival profile was launched on 1 December of the year before the festival took place. During the following period of almost nine months, the organisers issued 70 advertisements, 16 posters and 10 flyers, which were quite unique. Many of the posters have become collectors items.
Jury`s verdict
Øyafestivalen shows in this case how to use visual communication as a strategic, strongly differentiating tool. They have allowed the development of the design to go hand in hand with that of the festival, as both of them develop together in the process. The result of this is an energetic profile which successfully generates expectations about and focus on the festival. This wild, rock design includes certain individual elements which combine with a simple, powerful structure to create the whole impression.
The visual profile is based on a strong attachment to the festival's concept among the various target groups. Elements from underground culture and the traditional rock look are used in a new way, creating the feeling that these are things that you cannot miss out on. If you look at the posters long enough, you cannot ignore the fact either that you start hearing music. It is also impressive to see a visual profile with such a huge wealth of detail without it becoming unreadable and of no informational value.
