Safak Pavey

Safak Pavey is a communications, creativity, awareness raising, public relations professional and a peace & human rights activist with a spectrum of international experience and policy background.

Safak’s background embraces journalism, film-making, diplomacy, academia, peace activism and humanitarian work. Her studies include post-graduate degrees from London School of Economics, specializing in nationalism & minority rights. She also holds a degree in arts and media studies from Switzerland.

In 1996, Safak had a train accident in Zurich where she was studying and lost her left leg and arm. Since then, she has been an active prosthetics & wheelchair user and a disability-rights activist. Safak has worked as a freelance journalist, tv & documentary producer for various international media companies and worked as the columnist and UK-representative correspondent of Armenian-Turkish newspaper Agos as the first non-Armenian member of the publication for many years. She has also published three books including one legal book with 2003 Nobel Peace laureate, human rights activist Dr. Shirin Ebadi.

Since 7 years, she is with the UN Refugee Agency and has been on humanitarian missions to countries in the Middle East and Southwest Asia dealing with humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Algeria, Egypt, Yemen and Syria.
