The foam that is used in the furniture industry is often the non-environmentally friendly polyurethane (PUR). The furniture industry’s need for an alternative stuffing material was the basis for this project.
The textile ‘Between’ is the result of this research, and is a combination of woven textile and composite in the same fabric.
We think this new, innovative material has an exciting aesthetic. You do not need to cover it with fabric; the structure is aesthetic in itself. It is innovative and has soft and hard areas that can be shaped in ways that have not been possible until now.
The textile scores highly because it can replace more environmentally harmful products and create comfort at the same time. The fabric is welded using ultrasound and can also successfully be used for sound damping. The jury can see a whole range of interesting applications for this and thinks that this is a material that will inspire designers and interest industries.
