EVERY YEAR NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation) produces an annual report informing about what NRK has done during the previous year. The annual report is traditionally a publication for people with a special interest in it.
However, NRK has decided instead to create a web-based solution featuring video, audio and animations. The annual report is made up of chapter pages and a media section. The media section contains video and audio clips from the past year.
Jury`s verdict
This solution emphasises that annual reports on the Internet can present an exciting challenge for the whole industry, showing what is possible if you provide this format with the right scope. By designing and making the report available to the general public, combined with using video, audio and animation, which is all presented in an attractive layout, NRK is making it accessible so that the whole population can become involved and fully enjoy the content.
This user-friendly, intuitive solution is well spaced out, simple and self-assured. It has a strong design and the full screen format is well used. In this instance, NRK is challenging the annual report format. It offers impatient licence payers a proper receipt for what the licence fee is being spent on. This is a good solution which will promote this genre further. It shows what can be achieved with investment in design. It should have major symbolic value for the industry.
