JÆRSTOLEN AKSEL has been operating since 1938, in spite of economic fluctuations and recessions. The basic model since 1938 has three slats in the back and a wicker seat.
Nowadays other variations are sold with more slats, different types of wood and different choices of seat padding. The biggest markets are in Scandinavia, Germany and the US.
Jury`s verdict
Rock-solid classic design with strong roots in the Norwegian home. The Jærstolen chair is very comfortable, easy to move and place, and intuitively simple. It can take a lot of wear and tear and is passed on from one generation to the next. This is also one of the very few types of furniture which people return to the factory to have glued again or have a new seat woven. Apart from some enhancements in 1960, thousands of copies of the same chair are still being sold every year.
