FrognerseterenFrognerseteren is situated on the top of Holmenkollen, 435 meters above sea level, between the suburban areas of Oslo west and the forest Nordmarka surrounding the city. Consul and banker Thomas Heftye bought the land around today’s Frognerseter in 1865. At this time the place was a ”Seter” (high pasture) under Frogner farm. Thomas Heftye was very interested in outdoor living as well as the romantic image of peasant life and had the buildings erected as a place where hikers and travellers was given free admission to the house and served refreshments. Today Frognerseteren is a very popular starting point for x-country ski-trips as well as cycling and hiking for the people of Oslo .
