Stokke Xplory – an enormous urban success!

Stokke AS, a Norwegian furniture maker, made a bold move into an entirely new market when it decided to develop the Stokke Xplory stroller. Thanks to its unique design and exceptional functionality, the Stokke Xplory has become a huge success in urban environments, winning market shares in a growing number of countries worldwide.

The best way to transport children in urban settings
Stokke wanted to develop a new concept that would complement its basic range of products for children. The fundamental idea was to provide a means of transportation for children in city environments with a concept tailored to users with urban lifestyles in hectic city environments. As with Stokke’s other products, this product too had to be innovative, durable, multifunctional and safe. Furthermore, it had to offer a unique user experience.

The fundamental idea
Stokke arranged a competition in which designers from several countries were invited to submit proposals. The decision was subsequently made to continue collaboration with K8 Industridesign and to develop its proposal for a load-bearing construction around which several functions could be built.

K8 developed the concept to the extent it was able by producing prototypes with a key focus on user functionality. The product was then developed and industrialised in close cooperation with Bård Eker Industrial Design.

Activating children
Stokke Xplory takes children seriously by raising them to a level where can follow what is going on. This height advantage also puts distance between them and roadside dust and exhaust fumes, while at the same time bringing children closer to the person pushing the stroller and allowing for better contact.

A versatile stroller
Stokke Xplory is both a carry cot and a stroller, offering a total of five different positions. Seat height is regulated by moving the seat up or down along the central column. The stroller’s holistic and future-oriented appearance is complemented with a range of practical accessories such as a changing bag and a shopping bag.

Ergonomically correct for children and parents
Stokke Xplory’s functional design also offers very special ergonomic advantages. Children sit comfortably and safely in the stroller while enjoying the view and they can communicate better with their parents and surroundings. Seat height and ample opportunities for adjustment mean that adults are spared unnecessary back strain when lifting children and attending to their needs.

International success
Stokke Xplory has been subjected to rigorous testing and has a sound, flexible construction that offers children maximum safety and pleasant experiences. The stroller has strengthened Stokke’s position as a company providing innovative solutions adapted to users’ needs.

The company has received growing attention both nationally and internationally. The product has its greatest market abroad and has been launched with great success. The stroller has also facilitated the marketing and sale of Stokke’s other products designed for children.

Incredibly positive sales
Stokke holds three patents relating to the Stokke Xplory stroller. In addition, Stokke enjoys design and trademark protection of both the product and the product name. As a result of this, the company has so far avoided costly disputes and lawsuits with firms tempted to copy its design. This innovative stroller has been deemed a enormous success and so far “exceeds budget figures”.
