24H Inclusive Design Challenge FAQ

The purpose of the challenge is knowledge transfer between team participants and the conference as a whole. This is done by raising awareness, challenging designers creatively and helping the participants to acquire new forms of expertise within the field of Inclusive Design.

What's in it for me?

  • A best practice inclusive design demonstration project developed under an extremely short time frame to showcase to clients unaffected by client confidentiality - an invaluable opportunity to show what you and your selected team are made of.
  • Enables new design talent to be spotted and developed.
  • Invaluable knowledge and skills gained in the area of inclusivity.
  • Creative stimulus for tired designers.
  • It is a unique opportunity to gather designers, industry and user organisations who have not worked together before, not the least in order to establish new and long-lasting networks.
  • Become part of the international inclusive Design network of the HHC and draw on its expertise.

How does it work?

The challenge participants will be organised into teams. At the challenge kick-off at the start of the conference, the teams will be given an inclusive design brief.

After 24 hours, the teams will present their inclusive design results to all conference participants at a plenary session. They will then vote for two winners with prizes given for the best idea and the best presentation!

How are teams put together?

Each team will consist of 8 team members:

  • Team leader
  • 4 designers
  • 1 design student from any design study / school
  • 1 Business representative
  • 1 User representative

The designers will cover the disciplines of product/industrial design, service design, graphic design and interaction/web design. If you are interested in signing up as a team member, please email us at challenge@norskdesign.no

Facilitator and jury

Julia Cassim, Senior Research Fellow at the Royal College of Art Helen Hamlyn Centre in London will be chief facilitator of the 24H Inclusive Design Challenge. Further details will be announced.

What is the brief?

The brief will be given at the kick-off, the first day of the conference (20. may).
