The Norwegen Jetzt!- exhibition is important for Norwegian manufacturers, since it works as a door opener to a very important furniture market. Furthermore, it puts norwegian design in a context, that contributes to promote Norway as an modern and innovative industrial nation.
Several of the products on show have been on the market for more than 10 years - still with great interest from the consumers. A timeless shape extends the product's life cycle. Other factors are good quality, individuality and function. Lots of the classics also represent milestones in production techniques and material use.

ptima 1988

Optima is Ingmar Relling’s last major launch from 1988, the result of an emerging collaboration between father and son, Knut Relling. It clearly shows their principles of construction and their design understanding. With Optima, Relling continues his most important principles themed in flexibility and cohesion; a space-saving combination.
Siesta Ikon 1965

Relling aimed to create a chair that was comfortable through the use of elasticity and resilience. This chair is a result of a competition by the Norwegian Furniture Council in 1965, where it received the 1.prize. It was introduced as a minimalistic model; bright laminated wood, with a thin seat canvas. It did not become a sales success until it was launched with soft hide cushions. The minimalistic version is relaunched by Rybo Nor. 70 % of the Siestas are sold abroad, and Siesta was the first Norwegian furniture product that really penetrated the international market. Ekornes realized at an early stage that the TV would create a need for adjustable recliners. From now on people would be spending a lot of time in front of the television screen. In cooperation with the designers in the former Møre Design team, Svein Asbjørnsen, Jan Lade and Svein Leirdal they developed the Stressless® concept based upon the natural movements of the human body.
The chairs and sofas has become a major sales success worldwide.
Ekornes has been able to keep up the production in Norway and have established a solid branding in the international markets.
Every single day Ekornes manufactures 1515 reclining seats, and since the introduction in 1971 over 5 million Stressless © recliners have been sold. Stressless © Jazz is based on the original Stressless © Original and adjusted to the market demands of today.

Planet was the first circular chair within Norwegian Furniture production and a part of the pop-art's way into Norwegian Furniture Design. When relaunching the chair in 2002, the manufacturer added a rocking function to the chair. Planet was awarded The Norwegian Award for Design Excellence in 2002.
Scandia Senior Easy chair 1957

This chair was made as a student laminate work in 1957 . Scandia Sr. is considered a true Scandinavian Design Classic. The chair was produced in Norway, and distributed throughout the world until early 1970’s. The Scandia collection was relaunched by the small Norwegian company Fjordfiesta furniture AS in 2003- according to the response- a popular decision. Scandia Senior was awarded “The Best Classic Item” at the international furniture fair in Cologne in 2006.It is purchased by several museums, and has been used in episodes of the popular "Sex in the City" and in the movie "The Hours" with Meryl Streep.
Falcon 1971 and 2002

The Falcon collection was launched in 1971; in steel and then wooden laminate. Resell wanted to create a seat, which could hang on to a frame. He wanted it to be comfortable, elegant and easy to dismount, yet functional in use or stored. Falcon was relaunched in 2002.
Tripp Trapp™ 1972

In 1972 the only sitting devices for children from the age of two onwards were special, low chairs, or ordinary chairs intended for adults. Opsvik could not find a proper and practical chair for his son, he decided to create a chair that would "grow" with the child; Tripp Trapp. 6 Million Tripp Trapp™ chairs are sold since 1972, making Tripp Trapp the most important export article for the manufacturer Stokke.

The Balans-concept was invented at the end of the 70-s by the designers Peter Opsvik, Oddvin Rykken, Svein Gusrud and Hans Christian Mengshoel. Using leg support is one way to allow the user a steeper thigh angle without sliding off the seat, meaning it is easier to retain the natural curvature of the lumbar region.

The seat-back and the seat moves without adjustable fittings or mechanisms. The grooves adjust the laminate just as much as it moves when the body leans against the seat or the back. The chair was awarded the “Nordic Design Award for laminated Wooden Furniture 2007” during the Stockholm International Furniture Fair.

Move encourages movement and activity by its functionality. The circular base can be turned in all directions while following the body’s movements. You can move by sitting! A rubber layer under the base avoids friction while it also protects the flooring. The chair has a timeless design and was awarded the Classic Award for Design Excellence in 2002.
Balans® Activ 1979

Balans Activ is one of the first products made in the Balans series. The chair was originally manufactured by Håg ASA. As the name suggests, the chair invites you to sit in an active and varied way with an open angle between torso and thigh. With the torso in balance the strain is divided on all vertebras, at the same time as the back and stomach muscles are strengthened. Balans Activ received The Norwegian Design Council’s “Award for Design Excellence“ in 1984. and the designers behind the Balans Concept received the prestigious “Jacobsprisen” in 1986.

The body should be constantly in motion. HÅG Conventio Wing has a rocking mechanism giving the body a natural movement when sitting. Asbjørnsen wanted to provide the "high end"-market with individuality. It was also important that the chair should follow the natural movements of the body when sitting, forwards when working actively, backwards when resting and thinking. The HÅG H09 collection received The Norwegian Design Council’s “Award for Design Excellence” in 2004.

Savo Ikon is based on the ergonomical sitting concept "Savo Floating Tilt", which means that the seat and back moves independently of each other. The Chair Monk was designed for the Culture Building USF in Bergen. It is part of the Jazz Collection, one of the most successful collections by the furniture manufacturer Fora Form. Monk is delivered in beech and birch and is stackable up to 9 chairs. Monk has got "The Award for Design Excellence" 1993 and “The Classic Award for Design Excellence” in 2002.

Getz’ wavy shape shows when placed around conference- or dining tables. Getz is diminishing the gap between contract furniture and home furniture; since it may fit just as well into a private home as in public spaces.
Håg Capisco 1972

The inspiration for HÅG Capisco, the "Saddle Chair" was a horseback rider's dynamic posture. The goal, however, was to create a sitting device or work chair that would invite the user to assume the most sitting postures possible. The seat and backrest have cut-out spaces for arms and legs, which gives users freedom to vary their posture. Capisco means "I understand" in Italian. Few chairs understand the body's natural demands for variation and movement like HÅG Capisco does. Capisco is one of HÅG's best selling chairs.
Fly me to the moon 2005

Sigurd Strøm and Torstein Nilsens lounge chair named „Fly med to the moon“ is produced by Isak AS. The seat is made of foam and a steel frame, the base of stainless steel. The shape is similar to the shape of a ship’s hull. The chair is suitable for private homes as well as public spaces.

When L.K.Hjelle and Norway Says launched their first joint collection in 2004, this was characterized as a small design revolution. These furniture’s fits into a modern home just as well as in a public place and contributes to diminish the gap between home and office furnishing. The designers and the manufacturer have gained great publicity and international acknowledgement for their contribution to the renewal of Norwegian design.

Break is characterized as a lounge sofa. Break is awarded Forum +1 2004, The Award for Design Excellence 2004 and got nominated to the Honours Award for Design Excellence 2004. Break and the other pieces from the new collection has since then become important export product for the manufacturer.

Whole in One is the result of a student assignment at The National Academy of the Arts in Oslo. The students had 5 weeks to design furniture to be exhibited at Scandinavian Furniture Fair in Copenhagen in 2001. The designers were inspired by the patterns a body leaves when sitting in the snow.

The chair has an unique construction, making it work like a rocking-chair. According to the designer, tired and satisfied guests can rest comfortably when the coffee is beeing served. Eldøy was inspired by a peeled orange. The chair has the same function as the peel, it shall protect its contents, embrace it and take care of it. When sitting in the Peel chair you are its content.

The Copenhagen chair is a Master’s Degree work by Lars Tornøe. The project demanded use of 3D-veneer, a sort of material never before used by Norwegian furniture manufacturers. Compared to conventional veneer, this material allows more creative laminate shapes. Back and seat of this chair is made of 3D-veneer, which simplifies the production process.
Ekstrem 1984

There are endless possibilities for movement and variation whilst sitting. Ekstrem is a symbol of the playful Norwegian furniture design from the 80´s. Ekstrem has won several design awards and been on show on exhibitions around the world. It was also used by a TV-presenter at the German channel SAT1.
Frame 2007

This is a lounge chair meant for public spaces and private homes. The seat and back canvas are fixed to a bioplastic frame. The chair frame can be upholstered with hide or fabrics, whereas the base is made of polished stainless steel. Frame is a student prototype from The National Academy of the Arts in Bergen.
Eroica 2007

Eroica is a symphony chair- with ergonomically functions. Musicians need to change their sitting posture- while having little space and time for doing it. The designer Vidar Laksfors solved this problem by letting Eroica adjust to the musicians movements, without manual adjustments. This is a product for the future.
Elemento 2006

The Elemento collection represents a new artistic style, using laminating technique. A technique in which the form is laminated, and then again divided into many similar elements. These elements are then put together in different combinations, for instance a circular combination or into a rectangular flat combination.
Ele Ela 2006

Nowadays, more and more people tend to live in the city centre. Flats are divided into smaller flats or rooms-every inch matters. Our new way of living, creates a need of new kinds of furniture. Ele Ela is Atle Tveit’s Master’s degree work from The National Academy of the Arts in Bergen. It can be used daily as one chair, when necessary can this “single” chair be transformed into two separate chairs. If you have two of these “single” chairs, you can easily transform them into four chairs- a space saving solution.
Oslo Wood 2006

Oslo is a studio lamp with a tripod base. The lamp gives an upward solid indirect lightening effect, and warm and diffused direct light via the shade. The lamp is inspired by the light that occurs in the woods around Oslo during wintertime.
Snowball 2006

Snowball is a clean-edged lamp in functional style, with a slim stem supporting a solid hand-blown glass globe the size of a snowball.
The lam is based on a number of classics in this type, and is Constructed in brushed, stainless steel, with a “snowball” in frosted glass for a lamp shade. Snowball has some small, but important details such as transparent leads, a dimmer and a halogen bulb.
