On 14th November, participants heard how increased focus on product development and design has helped to create substantial benefits for Glamox, the long-established manufacturer of lighting products. Odd Thorvik, Product Development Manager, talked about Glamox' ambitions and design strategy and about the process of product development carried out in collaboration with Formel Industridesign.
Glamox has undergone a turnaround and in the space of two years has transformed a deficit of 36 million kroner into a profit before tax of 48 million. This success is to a large extent due to the company's increased focus on design and product development – a strategy that has already led to a considerable increase in Glamox' competitive strength in the market. The company has entered into a collaboration with Formel Industridesign, which has been integrated into the entire product development process. The designers' expertise and focus on user needs have become a profitable means of achieving success for Glamox and an important aspect of the company's long-term strategy.
